Politicians and businessmen
- Dhulappa (Anna) Bhaurao Navale - One of the Prominent name in south Maharashtra. He was born in a Chaturt Jain family on 15 January 1910. He was elected in 1937 elections against British supported Kuppr party from South Satara. He was the first individual Satyagrahi of Mahatma Gandhi from Satara District in which Sangli was also then included.He was one of the founder member of Shetakari Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Sangli.,now called as Vasantdada Shetakari S.S.K.Ltd.,Sangli. It was he who suggested the name "Shetakari" to the Sangli sugar factory in the first meeting & every one liked it & accepted it.He was very close friend of late Yeshwantrao B.Chavan & VasantDada B.Patil.He made the re-union (Preeti sangam) of both Yashwantrao Chavan & Vasantdada Patil at his native place Ankalkhop. He was MLC from 1962 to 1971 from Satara & Sangli District. Dhulappa(Anna) Navale,Swami Ramanand Bharti & V.S.Page were the three senior leaders from Sangli District.But all the three were from minority caste & there names were never brought forward.He was the Chairperson of " The Groundnut Co-operative Society Ltd.",Sangli for eleven years.During his chairmanship the Groundnut co-operative society was in its golden era & was awarded several awards from Central & State Government.He Died on 30 Sep.1988.
